Open the hood and try to hear the sound at the regulator as someone pushes on the brake pedal. If the sound is coming from the regulator when the brakes are applied, it is the same symptom that I have and as yet have not figured out the actual cause. My brakes also work fine. My noise has been about 10 months since it started. I am also looking for the cause, and looking for help.
1989 750iL. If I were to take a wild guess, I would say the cause is the accumulator going bad. But the cost of an accumulator keeps me from acting on my guess without more information.
I have a 1990 750iL. I can hear what sounds like a valve of some sort open and close in the brake system at intermittent times when applying the brakes, or even when the car is just idling. The noise is clearly audible as well. Sounds like it is under the dash or near the pedal. I have been told that it is likely the "ABS Control Module." Is there any way to remove and test and/or reset the original unit? No use putting a new one in if the old one can be fixed. BTW, the brakes feel fine otherwise and seem to work okay. Thanks for any help.
