Yes (at least with the canisters that have a bolt holding the cap in place). When the bolt is removed it opens a valve that lets the oil drain out of the canister. Look down the bolt hole and you will see a rod (slightly smaller in diameter than a pencil). When this rod is depressed, the drain valve closes (i.e. when bolt inserted). If your rod is remaining depressed, the oil will not drain out of the canister. Using a suitable tool, attempt to work the rod so that is moves (pops up).If you have the screw on cap, I have no idea how the valve is controlled or even if there is a valve.
what am I missing?
When changing the oil filter, after removing the oil filter canister cap, removing the oil filter cartridge, is the oil left standing in the now filter empty canister supposed to drain out of the canister and out of the oil pan drain plug?
Thanks in advance!
