I feel your pain. I had earlier traded a 911 for a 1981? Audi 5000 turbo (married, again)which I traded for a 1986 735i in December 1986, a particularly good year. Best car I've ever owned. It went where I was thinking, with only a little help with my hands. I kept it almost 10 years, 185k miles, never burned a drop of oil between changes. It cost nothing but oil changes for the first 125,000 miles, but I began to have to start spending money on front end, a/c, etc., and "upgraded" to a 1990 750il. I had no idea what spending money on repairs really meant. So I have a 1990 car that is paid for but which I average $300 to $400 per month in repairs, which is not much different from what my partner is paying on the 528 he bought his wife. My problem is partly that I can't stand something not right, and replace things, like the rear window seals, that most people would not notice were just a little noisy. If I could get the front end right, so it would respond like the 1986 735i, I'd be completely happy. But it doesn't, and I'm always pi**ed about it.
New 528, old 750, new 528, old 750.... what a decision. Damn, although the 528's are fun to drive, against my better judgement I keep driving the 750. But parked next to an E38 or any of the rounder models it is looking kinda old. Like the E32 did compared to the E38, and now the new 7 is coming out in a couple of months. The price of the E38's is likely to drop like a rock, so I'm thinking I will get an E38 at a reasonably affordable price late this year.
Good luck on your decision.

Well I have owned my 88 735i for 3 and half years and its on problem after the other. Don't get me wrong its a beuitiful car and it looks like new, but I'm tried of sinking money into it. The question is that now I could aford to buy a new 2001 BMW 3 all wheel drive wagon. Should I go for it or do you guys think that I would not be happy after driving a 735i. Have to admit after driving the 3 the 7 feels old.

Thanks JJP
