Well, depending on what you term as normal. The whinning could be a belt, power steering fluid, a variety of things. Try to identify where this noise is coming from, then this board may be able to help you.

I checked out a 91 850i 6sp with 95k miles on it. The car makes whinny/squeaking noise. I'm wondering if that's normal for M70B50 engine. I recall that the E32 750i has this noise too.
