A known problem with the "brake light circuit is the original brake light switch is substandard. Replace it(US$12)and your "circuit" messages most likely will go away. Congrats on your purchase, now try not grin too much while driving!!!

Just picked up a 1991 735 with 140K. First BMW i've ever owned. Its lovely. Few minor things that i'm hopeful for some advice on:

1. With the exception of the last 3 services the car has total BMW main dealer history. The most recent service in August of last year was carried out by a BMW 'specialist'. It was a type 2 inspection. Any quick pointers as to how to verify if the full BMW inspection 2 criteria was applied?

2. Any ideas why the drivers side electric lumbar support does'nt work?

3. Whats the best grade and type of replacement engine oil which I can use?

4. What are the faults associated with the message "brake light circuit etc - check owners manual". The brake lights work fine and the braking itself is faultless!!

Just to add that these cars must be the best kept secret in motoring - my work car is a 'C' class MB - its 9 years newer and comes nowwhere close.

Thanks in anticipation - ANDY
