its supposed to stay down when depressed. i had the exact same problem with mine. new switch at bmw is $36. fixed it with no problem.

Ever since I bought my 90 735iL (160k mi now), the flashers have not worked properly. Since I do not have access to any other E32, I need to know whether a normally functioning flasher switch button is supposed to stay 'pushed in' when the flashers are operating. I can get my flashers to work by pushing the button, but must hold it in by hand. Once the button is released, the flashers stop. Is it a mechanical switch problem or is there some sort of relay that quit?
