How bizarre that they work different ways.
But mine is going haywire, flashing for no reason, like when I open the sunroof, open a door, turn off the ignition, etc.

Dealer mechanic said it was the crash detector switch, and put a new one on today. Opened the sunroof on the way home and the flashers come on.

Ever since I bought my 90 735iL (160k mi now), the flashers have not worked properly. Since I do not have access to any other E32, I need to know whether a normally functioning flasher switch button is supposed to stay 'pushed in' when the flashers are operating. I can get my flashers to work by pushing the button, but must hold it in by hand. Once the button is released, the flashers stop. Is it a mechanical switch problem or is there some sort of relay that quit?
