Looks like a great and tidy messageboard you guys operate here. Just aquired my first BMW. A 750iL / 91er and I have some questions about the pre-mounted GSM-system that came with some of these E32īs. Can it be bought or obtained used and mounted without doing any particular wiring? Where would be a good source (in Europe) to obtain the necessary units/boxes (how many and where do they go?).
I noticed when cleaning up my trunk today that there where some extra wiring. One white cable which seemed to lead up to a BMW-box (looked like an amplifier) mounted under the rear shelf in a black plastic cover. The "powercable" to this unit seemed to be removed. Since the car came with an un-standard Blaupunkt-unit I am not sure if this box has something to do with the original stereo or is a part of the GSM-system?
I did find a GSM-antenna cable, and tested this with my Nokia-set and it works fine. Though I see no antenna on this car, neither for GSM or the radio. But both works as mentioned.
The box under the package shelf is the TX/RX unit for the factory cellular phone. I am not familiar with the term GSM, you need to enlighten me on this (senior moment).
GSM, as in celluar phone. The system mostly used over here these days are called GSM. Think it stands for Global System for Mobilephones...
