You do not. The transmission is sealed. The only way to check fluid level and condition is via the drain plug, underneath. Theoretically, you should never have to do anything with this transmission. However, there has been much discussion on this board to the effect that a fluid change is helpful.

Does this go for the other automatics too? I noticed that on my Inspection II papers from BMW it said they had changed the engine, gearbox and diff oils...
