You could check Brian's comment with a compression test. Each cylinder should be at least 10-11 bar (142-156 psig). Ideal testing conditions (summary of Bentley):
1) have enough battery to spin at 250-300rpm
2) engine at normal operating temperature
3) remove fuel pump relays
4) remove air cleaner assembly
5) detach wiring from ignition coils
6) disconnect spark plug wires and remove all spark plugs
7) install compression gauge
8) crank engine with accelerator pedal to the floor
9) pressure should peak within 4 to 6 strokes
10) record pressure and # of strokes for each cylinder
You say it is not leaking but you still might want to check the crankcase pressure by very carefully opening the oil filler cap whith the engine running. Follow the link below before you do it to get an idea what it is all about. A follow-up describing the results was also posted at Check it out after the one below.

'88 750iL

...says my board computer sometimes. IŽll have a shop look at it. I suspect a small leak somewhere. But was wondering if somnebody might have experienced this before (91 750iL).

No chocolate-oil symptoms...No darking of coolant. So the oil just seems to leak out into nothing. I havenŽt seen a drop of oil on my garage floor either. Mysterious little thingy. But hereŽs the background.

Bought the car right after Inspection II where a BMW dealer had changed all oils and filters. Oil was clear and nice. About halfways up the stick between min/max. Milage: 187000 km (divide by 1.6 for miles).

After a medium hard drive at higher speeds (100-120mph) for an hour I stoped to refuel. Then the Engine Oil Low warning came on. Waited 10 minutes to let the oil settle and checked. Just on minimum mark. Refilled about a liter of oil... This was at about 187500 km.

Took it a bit easier just in case and the warning didnŽt show until about 189000 km after I had done several kickdowns and fast drive bys. Hey, a V12 can be fun ;) Same thing. Refilled about a liter.

Now today it again showed after I did a series of accelerations. This is at about 191000km...

It seems that if I rev the engine for a longer period or drive "hard" it looses oil. Or it could just be a coincident, and that it looses oil at a slow rate.

Any ideas what it is? Like I said, IŽll have a shop look at it soon to correct it anyways.
