To show my complete lack of experience of working on suspensions:

I have had a few extortionate quotes for renewing the springs and shocks on my car. But I can quite easily buy the parts at reasonable prices, and the only thing holding me back from doing it myself is the fact that I've never done it before, and I don't want to go near a spring compressor.
But... if I bought the springs and shocks, could it just be a matter of getting someone with a spring compressor to put the 2 together for me, and then perhpas a simple matter for me to remove old/install new?

All supportive comments welcome...
