Did you walk into the Repair Facility waving your new Gold Card singing " Who will be the First ". OK, in all sincerity, I really hate to hear stories about the real repairs being so much more costly than the estimate. I guess thats why I fix my own. To pass my State inspection, I needed Lower Control Arms, Brakes for both the front and rear and 1 light bulb. The estimate from the repair shop was $1153 USD. The OEM parts for the 2 Lower Control Arms, 4 New Rotors, Dustless Brake Pads. and the light bulb was $383 USD. So, I denied this guys kids $770 USD towards their Summer Vacation. But, you should see how nice the car handles now. My moral to this story is to never take the first recommendation for work.

P.S. The Dustless Brake Pads are the best invention since water. I cleaned the mags and they have stayed clean for the last three weeks. I was even thinking of changing the Brake pads on my wifes Montana to Dustless just so I wouldn't have to clean the wheels.

Best Regards,

Tom

P.P.S. You should see the look on the mechanics face when you say " OK, I'll bring it back, I do my own work ". The last guy replied that even he wouldn't drive the car with the condition of the lower control arms. He would be afraid of the drivers side unit Popping Off, which would cause the car to loose control. He said this while we were standing, watching the buisy 4 lane highway which I had to turn left onto to get home.

Hey, I lived through it, and in all reality, the drivers side unit wasn't any where close to falling apart.
