Although $2500 ($1250 USD) is a chunk of change, for what they're doing, I think you're getting a good deal. Here in the US, they (the stealers) would probably charge close to 3,000 US$.

My question is why do NZ cars smell? Reminds me of the one where God and Adam are talking in the garden of Eden after Adam and Eve's first bout with procreation. As they're talking they see Eve washing up in a nearby stream. God says, "damn, now I'll never get the smell out of those fish!"

Happy driving in the iL!!

Took the luxo limo(735il) in for an inspection I(first service since i've owned it), also the BMW service centre had found 3 very minor oil leaks that they said they'll fix for $500 while the service the car. I drop it off, they said that it'll be a day so they gave me a stinky interiored 1991 520i. I get a call a day later(this morning) and they said they are all major oil leaks and they want me to come and have a look. Get there, the engine is in bits and I see the front, rear and head gaskets are all leaking. As well as that, the front brake pads are down to 1mm and the front rotors are past legal requirements, GREAT! OH, and the water pump is on it's way out too said the service guy. So I run straight to the warranty booklet, open it, and in red capital letters, "OIL SEALS AND GASKETS ARE NOT COVERED ON VEHICLES OVER 10 YEARS OF AGE OR 130'000 KMS" SHIT!!!! My 1992 735iL is now sitting on 190'000 KMS. The only thing covered is the bloody water pump, how much do these cost including labour? So I ask "how much?" , and he smiles and says "about $2500". But I suppose it has to be done so the cars there for a few days, and while they are in the engine bay I got them to check the whole engine bay for anything that will need replacing soon and they only found a bit of play with the water pump, so thats being replaced. Now only the exhaust needs to be replaced in 6 months(says BMW) and the car should be running in mint condition. Is this about the usual time for the gaskets to go? AND, I told them that the loan car stinks and I want a new one, so they give me a nicer smelling interiored 1990 535i, but thank God I don't need to open the trunk on the new loan car because it reaks!! Comments welcome I suppose, just so long as it won't cost me!

(All the prices are in New Zealand Dollars, roughly halve NZ dollars to get US dollars)
