a 740 with a new block, known service history, and only 65k miles is a great find, especially for only US$11k (assuming the mkt in Canada is similar to the states)

The 5spd trans seem to have less problems than the older E32 4 speeds. Still not perfect, though. Most get to 100k miles without any work needed, many much past that.

Cooling systems aren't a huge prob in these cars, from my exp. Suspension are big wear items, and at 65k miles, probably will need some work soon.

Make sure all the electronics work, including all functions of the OBC (esp the read-out below the spedo when you press the turn-signal stalk), power seats and headrests.

Search the archives of this board to find more detailed lists of problem areas.

If you don't take the car, I might buy it!!!

'91 750iL 95k

I own a e34 525it (touring wagon) but am thinking of adding a e32 to the family. My uncle has the last year of the e32, 740il, the engine was replaced 50,000km ago, it is in mint condition, with 100,000km (65,000 miles)on the clock. the body and interior are like new, he never drove it in the rain or snow. he wants $18,000 CDN or about $11,500 US I think the price is good, what i want to know is what to look for in repairs. with the e34 the front end bushings need attention as does the cooling system. What about the e32? Is the 5-speed trany a problem etc... Your help is needed.
