Could also feasibly be the instrument cluster capacitors starting to go - classic symptom is resets to values (though usually the trip odometer)... would still suggest checking the battery as has been suggested as a first, work from a clean baseline approach.

It is more than likely that your battery is gone. Especially because of the alternating language changes between German and English. As per the tail light message or any 'incorrect' message that have to do with lighting, check the LKM to make sure all components are still soldered in place. Charge or jumo-start your battery and see if the language is still changing, if it stops when the battery well charged then your battery is faulty. Let's know.

I have 2 problems that are haunting me
1. The language on the dash changes back and forth between German and English.
2. The tail light out message comes on after the light have been on for a few minutes. I turn the car off, let it sit for a few minutes, start it up and it is fine for a few more minutes. Something getting hot and breaking the circuit?
