BMW apparently declared a 6 year extended warranty - check the other details in the archive - to replace the whole shortblock on affected cars with an ALUSIL engine, which doesn't suffer the problems.
You need to check the archives more - there have been posts in the last two months or so about the details of the warranty and how to find the block part numbers and how to determine which number is Alusil and which is Nikasil... don't panic yet, just sort out what & where you are with yours.
Also the headlight/foglight cleaners work (as far as I can remember) by using the "extensive wash" option on the wiper stalk - push it in towards the steering column (not backwards or forwards - straight in). Unsure but may also require the lights to be on...

I just made a post and "Jeff" said that these cars had bad engines and BMW was replacing them!!!!!
