Find The pieces of the rocker arms. Make sure the rocker arms are not siezed in the valve guides. Check the compression of the cylinder
Besure the camshaft rotates freely. check the oil distribution rail retention bolt.it loosens over long period of time and may case oils stavation at the front of the motor.they have made a new bolt that locks in place. the rocker arms are replacable, you'll probably have to remove the head though. The bently manual is a good recource for specs.

I WAS GOING TO ADJUST THE VALVE FOR MY 88 735i W 166K MILES WHEN TO MY DISMAY AND HORROR I FOUND TWO BROKEN ROCKER ARMS. THE FIRST CYLINDER BEHIND THE TIMING CHAIN. CAN IT BE FIXED AND HOW/WHAT DO I DO TO FIX IT MYSELF. ANY LINKS OR INFO ON WHAT TO DO THANK YOU. ALSO WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS? I CHANGE THE OIL REGULARLY WITH CASTROL FULL SYN 5W-50W. I AM JUST IN SHOCK WOULD IT BE BETTER TO GET A NEW HEAD OR ENGINE OR WHAT???? ANY IDEAS WELCOMED.
