Well, it's finally time to retire my twenty year-old Chevrolet daily driver (my significant other drives the 735i on a regular basis). I have been looking at 93-94 five-speed 325i E36s but, with all the talk recently about the turbine-smooth 750iL, it is possible to pick up a 91-92 750iL for about the same cost, usually with less miles. I did drive a couple of 750iLs before buying the 735i four years ago but the potential maintenance costs scared me. I really want to drive a stick-shift again on a daily basis but the 750iL does have the 12-cylinder appeal.

So, what does the collective think? A 91-92 750iL or a 93-94 325i (or a close-ratio five-speed and a REALLY nice paint job for the '02)?

Regards

no, I don't want to mention the Chevy

OK, I *LOVE* my 735i 5sp BUT... it could use some more beans.

My next car will be an E32 750iL w/ auto (I too am swayed by the collective will), OR, you could get a 740i/iL and do a manual conversion... I believe Korman and others offer this as a "standard". The cars are available this way in Europe (I think Wim's 740 is a manual). It's kind of goofy to spend money that way, probably cheaper to find a 540 6sp, but it ain't an E32, now, is it?

I'd suggest the same thing for a 750iL, but I've not heard of anyone offering a standard program to do this. I know E31 V12s were available with a manual, but not sure about parts availablity.

Good luck, and it's a great problem to have, isn't it?
