Hi Alex,
You and I correspond a lot but I thought I would
post my entry on the board anyway. If your intent
is "low maintenance" commuter as replacement for
your Chev, its a no brainer, buy the E-36 5 speed.

If its pure esthetic/sensory pleasure you seek, with the downside of much greater time/maintenance
cost, (I could be describing my ex-wife) the 750il has few if any peers....an amazing car...
voted by many a car magazine the best overall car
in the world.

You and I have spoken often of these tradeoffs with our E-32 735i's which may possess arguably
the best combination of wonderful esthetic's
without overwhelming complexity. I believe the 750il would be a the best choice as a pleasure car..if you could take your time to work on it.
In any event, the '02 deserves a really nice paint
job!
Best Regards,
George

...got a ride in Bruno's tricked out E-34 535i/5 speed on Saturday...another tempting choice...the synthesis of benefits from both 3 and 7 series... especially with the tasteful mod's he's performed.

Well, it's finally time to retire my twenty year-old Chevrolet daily driver (my significant other drives the 735i on a regular basis). I have been looking at 93-94 five-speed 325i E36s but, with all the talk recently about the turbine-smooth 750iL, it is possible to pick up a 91-92 750iL for about the same cost, usually with less miles. I did drive a couple of 750iLs before buying the 735i four years ago but the potential maintenance costs scared me. I really want to drive a stick-shift again on a daily basis but the 750iL does have the 12-cylinder appeal.

So, what does the collective think? A 91-92 750iL or a 93-94 325i (or a close-ratio five-speed and a REALLY nice paint job for the '02)?

Regards

Alex Lynch

no, I don't want to mention the Chevy
