The following are from the service booklet for my '91 735i.

INSPECTION I

Engine Compartment

-Read out diagnostic system
-Check valve clearances (on M20-, M30- engines). Adjust as necessary.
-Check cooling system and all connections and heater hoses for leads. Check coolant level and concentration; add coolant if necessary.
-Check steering gear or power steering for leaks and correct oil level. Add oil as required.
-Check level of brake and clutch fluid in reservoir. Add fluid if required.
-Check windshield washer reservoir level and antifreeze protection. Fill up if necessary.
-Check intensive washer fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.
-Check electrolyte acid level and add distilled water as required.
-Check air conditioner for operation and proper Freon charge.
-Clean and lubricate bearing points and moving parts of the throttle butterfly linkage.
-Reset service indicator.
-Recommended (to be invoiced separately): Clean injectors and/or clean carbon from intake valves as necessary.

Undercarriage

-Change engine oil and oil filter while engine is at normal operating temperature.
-Check manual transmission and front and rear axle for tightness.
-Change automatic transmission fluid while at normal operating temperature (only in Inspection I, not required in Inspection II)
-Visually check fuel tank, lines and connections for leaks.
-Check condition, position and mounting of exhaust system. Examine for leaks.
-Check steering for absence of play in straight ahead position. Adjust if necessary.
-Remove and install front and rear disc/drum brake pads, check overall thickness (invoice separately if replacement is required). Examine brake disc surfaces.
-Check brake system connections and lines for leaks, damage and incorrect positioning.
-Inspect wheel brake cylinders and dust boots for leaks. Check free movement of parking brake cables. Adjust parking brake if necessary. Grease wheel centering hubs, reinstall wheels.
-Check and torque air vane ring bolts on M5.
-Check condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage and joint disc.
-Check all tire pressures (including spare). Correct if necessary. Check condition of tires tread wear and pattern; in case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if requested (to be invoiced separately).
-If desired, rotate all four road wheels as instructed and rebalance (invoice separately).

Body/Electrical Equipment

-Check wipers and washer system; wiper blades, washers, jet position.
-Check condition and function of the seatbelts.
-Oil hinges of doors, hood and lid; grease hood and lid catches, door catches and striker plates. Check operation of each component.
-Check steering for absence of play in straight ahead position. Adjust if necessary (invoice separately).
-Check the operation of the following items: Lighting equipment (headlights, parking, back-up, license plate, interior, glove box, map reading lights front/rear, illuminated sun visor, engine and luggage compartment lights).
-Self-leveling suspension: check oil level with rear axle lifted. Add oil as required.
-Change microfilter for heating or automatic climate control.
-Headlights alignment, adjust if necessary
-Warning equipment: Turn signals, hazard warning flashers, brake lights, horns, headlight dimmer and flasher switch. Check control readings and operation.
-Instrument lighting: control lighting, ABS-, ASC- and SRS lights, windshield wipers and washers (including jet positions and top off tank, heater and air conditioner blowers, rear window defroster)
-Rear view mirror.

Final inspection

-Road test with check of brakes, steering, clutch or automatic transmission and rear view mirrors. Pre-burnish parking brake according to specifications.


INSPECTION II

As above (except where noted) plus

Engine Compartment

-Replace spark plugs
-Check tension and condition of all V-belts. Correct tension (except M70-, M50-engines) if necessary. Change V-belts on S38-engine. Replacement to be invoiced separately.
-Check oil level in automatic transmission. Add oil as required.
-With every second Inspection II or every 4 years for cars with low mileage, change timing belt (M20 engine). Invoice separately.
-Replace intake air cleaner filter element.
-Automatic Stability + Traction Control: change inlet filter element.

Undercarriage

-Change oil in manual transmission (and transfer case of 325 iX) while at normal operating temperature.
-Check oil in automatic transmission.
-Change oil in rear axle (and front axle of 325 iX0 while at normal operating temperature.
-Half-shafts: check flexible boots for leaks
-Rear disk brakes: check thickness of parking brake linings
-Clean air intake dust separator of the 850i
-Replace main fuel filter.
-Check clutch driving plate for wear.
-Inspect entire body according to the terms of the Limited Warranty-Rust Perforation

BMW Additional Maintenance Required

-Replace oxygen sensor every 50,000 miles
