Removing center cap from multi(30)spoke wheels?... (archive)

Hello, I'm a 95 540i owner, bought the 30 spoke Alpina-looking BMW OE wheels, from 95 7xx. With wheels off, you can get to a spring that holds the tabs out and the roundel piece in place. I poppped it back on after I put lugs on. How do you get this thing off from the outside? Do you have to insert a screwdriver from the outside? Don't want to scratch the plastic roundel-cap assembly.
