My 90 750iL has the Dinan ECU chips and the Trans chip. I bought and installed the ECU chips first and was happy with the extra power, but the car would upshift just as the power was coming on. I didn't want to mess around with manually upshifting either. With the Trans chip installed, it shifts just into the redzone around 6200 rpm. Much improved. Although fairly expensive, it will be one of the only power enhancements I add so it was worthwhile.
The chips are pricey, but I got them from a friend who sold his 750il. The reason they are expensive is because the car has on ecu for each bank of cylinders. Thus, twice the price of regular chips. If you want a gain in HP, chips are the cheapest way to go as a cat back exhaust will cost you even more $$ and you get less HP gains. As for my car, I have a cat back exhaust and changed the air filters to a cone type. Yes, I only have the ecu chips, but am considering the tranny chips. The chips were definitely worth the co$t, and would do so even if I had to buy it new. I have heard the Jim C chip has better mid-range characteristice and would be interested to see his dyno results.Ray,
You came to the right place. I have a '88 750il w/ the Dinan chips. It made a little difference in the low end, but not very noticeable. The chip make the motor come to life at 3500 rpms+. With a stock motor and the Dinan chip, you should pump out 326hp@4200.
Thanks for the information. The chips are kind of expensive, so do you think they are worth the bucks? Also, I see that Dinan has a transmission chip. You only have the ECU chips, right?
Thanks again.
Does anyone have any actual experience with either Dinan or Conforti chips, cams, etc.? I have a 88 750il with 158k miles.
Thanks for any input.
