Being basically cheap and lazy, I cleaned mine off with Simple Green, lightly sanded with wet emery paper, masked off the area and painted them with a VHT aluminum paint (had to drive around for about 30 minutes while the stuff cured). Does look good though. Durability you ask, don't know yet.
