Hi Gale,
Thanks for the post...have my replacement mounts
in hand and will be replacing them shortly. Well
like Alex, have to ask how you changed them so
quickly..20 minutes each side...hmmmmmmm. I pre-
sume you jacked the motor up on the pan...with that amount of time you couldn't have loosened the
exhaust hanger/trans mounts, removed the clutch
fan and cooling reservoir on the firewall and
other peripherals affected by engine position...
both the air compressor and power steering pump
plumbing don't want to be moved much without
some loosening.
Plenty of room to remove the mounts by jacking the
motor but wouldn't attempt it with out loosening
alot of the connecting hardware.
Let us know.
Best Regards,
George
90 735il/145KI've been plagued with a severe engine vibration in the cabin at idle, worst when stoped at a light with the a/c on. I suspected motor mounts & sure enough, that fixed it. Took about 20 minutes, both sides, a no-brainer. Mounts are about $36 ea. at your favorite mailorder supplier. Yes, they are liquid filled, the new ones even have "Bilstein" on the box. That explains why the left one was wet, I always thought it was a sloppy oil filter change by previous the owner. Here's a jpeg of a cutaway. Don't ask me why I do this sort of stuff, I guess just because it's there & ah needs to know. The upper & middle cavities are oil filled, the bottom cavity is vented to atmosphere.
