Sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind & just go for it & I wasn't in the mood to homestead the job, so put the front on jackstands (ref. http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_7.htm ), removed the nuts top & bottom (used a swivel & many socket extensions) & did the left one(driver's side) by lifting the pan with a block of wood & a floorjack, & the right on the a/c compressor bracket. I checked the engine bay as I went up & still had plenty of clearance & only takes about 1-1/2" to clear the studs. I left the exhaust alone, they look formative but in actuality, they have alot of inherent flex, besides, the cat lifts along with the motor & trans. & the rest is hanging on rubber donuts, no problem there. My 528 was a pinch at the firewall so I understand your concerns about removing other stuff, but for 735's it's wide open.20 minutes total for the whole job.
I hesitated lifting on the pan but it only sees approx. 50% of the weight, with the other 50% at the trans mounts (replaced them last year). If you've ever wandered thru a shop or used engine supply, you'll see them all sitting on the ground & they survive, so to me, no big deal.
If someone sends me the wall thickness of the pan, I'll model it & do an FEA analysis on it to alleviate anyone's concerns, but lets say a 250# force uniformly distributed along the front of the pan just before it curves & goes up in the front, I doubt I'll see any significant stresses.
