Try testing wet, and with a hand-spray bottle mist water over & around the motor. I'd guess that (Murphy's Law) your static test wasn't getting the motor etc wet in the "right" place to shut down the motor... I personally would check into if the motor has position switches in it, eg when in park, this line is earthed etc. Water could be flagging such a line as prematurely earthed too early in the stroke...

Yes, the wipers fail then they come back on some time later.
I tried to test this in a controlled environment, with mechanics and friends there ...

... the wipers worked fine. We had the wipers running for over an hour on a dry (and later a wet) screen. Tried intermittent wipe and fast wipe (normal wipe won't operate on a non-moving E32 - they go onto intermittant). All fine. A few days later they failed again.

It seems to be a random length of time later and the wipers just fail then come back on some time later. Is it that the relay is getting too hot? I tried to run the car fora while with the rear relay box cover removed. But there is nothing from the wiper switch at all. Tried the leads to the motor, tried the relay under the rear seat, even tried swearing at them ...

Any ideas for a fix or suggestions for further testing even ?
