At the risk of starting yet another "oil war" I'll go out on a limb and state the only reason not to use synthetic is if excessive leaks start to develop. In my opinion, it's superior to petroleum oils in every respect. That said, I use Castrol 10W30 petroleum base in mine because the Mobil 1 the previous owner used caused leaks past the front timing covers & pan gasket. Leaks stopped after 2nd change back to petroleum & I change every 3k miles.

All new BMW's use full synthetic with extended change intervals.
