nope never done a brake pad/rotor job myself..dunno if it is difficult or easy..but I want to make sure that I can brake safely on the road..
The reason I've asked is that the vast majority of the repair shops want to make profit out of the spare parts...and on top of that they charge proffesional repair costs..something like 100 bucks/hr..
When I asked whether I could have my microfilter replaced the guy wanted 250 bucks to replace it..guess what I opend the glovebox compartment myself...went through Bentleys for the right spot and did it myself. I must say that it took me 6 hours to do it..
but
I found out that whoever had done it in the past is a moron because...they lost two screws on the passengers vent..they broke part of the plastic that states about microfiltering..
they didn't bother to take the hoover and take the rubbish out..before putting the new one...
If I could do it...I would go ahead and do the brakes as well..but I am a little scared whether I do something that makes them defective..afterwards
you see the bentley manual just says take X out..put Y in..put back X..but they don't tell you watchout because you are not carefull there you are going to bend z or break the plastic of q and then you will have to buy a new one...
do you have any suggestions about the rotors..are they easy or difficult to do them myself..?

Hi,
1) if there are good and bad ones than there is a difference. I have used OEM, some have been good some not. Have been quite pleased in general with ATE rotors and pads. Currently use Bosch rotors (don't know who really makes them for Bosch) and ATE pads. Work o.k. under all conditions.
2) no, different in size, diameter, have integrated drum for park brake
3) not really, although BMW says so. Rotors are cheap cast iron (the German spec is GG40 Grauguss)
4) Jurid, ATE, OEM BMW
5) better change the fluid than the hoses, unless they are bad
6) there is not much of a kit (rotors plus 1 6mm ? hex bolts for each side)
4 brake pads plus 1 sensor. The mounting hardware, depending on type of caliper can be reused
7) approx. 30k miles front, 50k miles rear
on a 750i with alot of high speed driving
BTW: have you ever doen these jobs (pads and/or rotors) ?
