I was told by several mechanics that premium fuel actually typically contains less sulfur than other octane ratings. I have no idea if this is true, but the prior owner of my 94 740iL and myself have always used premium and so far (knock on wood), no Nikasil block problems (orig M60 engine, 55,000 miles and counting).

Of course, the damn thing could also just be waiting for my guard to drop before turning a beauty into a beast that needs a new engine ...
