I had mine out a while back to replace one of the hoses. Experienced the same "breaking the vibration mountings" thing (2 of mine).
Think I posted some hints/tips on this earlier + a procedure of removing the darn valves, which is really not a "pull out" thing like you just pointed out. There´s some pictures on my site too. I removed the bracket that holds the engine plugs, diagnostics plug etc to get it easier out of mine.

Well, I've had the 750 for 2 1/2 months and I've finally completed my first repair. I'll give myself a grade of B+.

Here's some pointers, the Bentley manual doesn't give you the whole story. Picture 1 on page 640-4 is correct for the 750, but the second picture is of a different model. Here's something to be careful of. Teh control valve unit is secured to a bracket by three bolts with a nut on top of each. The bolt is also a vibration damper of sorts and is really two pieces. The bolt itself is surrounded my rubber on the bottom with the clean end on top, to which the nut attaches. One of mine broke (the front left), naturally not it stock at the stealer, but at least only $5. Between the other two bolts and the multiple hoses attached to the valve, it's realy secure.

My favorite part of the repair (after all hoses and bolts were removed)was what Bentley described as "Lift out heater valve together with auxiliary coolant pump." Yeah right, it's just gonna lift straight out. Also keep in mind there is still one hose attached (not mentioned in Bentleys) that is impossible to remove unless the valve is half out. I ended up taking apart the valve while in the engive cavity (six torx screws) and still had difficulty getting it out. Finally with the bloody thing out, I wondered how on earth would I get the valve in there which was by now attached to the aux. cooland pump. I stared that small space down for about 10 minutes, attached that lower hose, and tried, twisted, contorted (you get the picture). So, I wondered "will I have to get this towed to the stealer?" NFW (no F^$#^ing way), I thought.

Finally got it in, put it back together, now a hose clamp was busted. Waste an hour going to the auto parts store. At least I can say it's done. Aside from the broken bolt, the only thing I broke was a couple plastic fittings that hold together sections of the electric harness. They snapped really easily, so be careful.

I paid $140 for the part (Bosch) at R&S Auto in CA; they're the ones who sell the valve on ebay every now and then. I was told you can't get the rebuild kit for the 750, so bought the whole thing. I think Zygmunts has it for $120 though.

Oh yeah, the hot air isn't coming out of the defroster now. I'll be a cooler dude this summer.
