I'm running 17" M5 evoII rims, the kind often called "throwing star" rims. Got 255/40 rear and 225/40 front.

No shimmy whatsoever on these at any speed (haven't tried over 150mph/240kmh).

Haven't had 16" rims so I don't know about those.

The winter setup is 15" original dish alloys which don't shimmy either.

I got to thinking, there are a whole lot of rim manufacturers and some of the cheapest rims can be of poor quality. The e32 is a heavy car. Perhaps the big cheap rims get slightly bent and cause shimmy?

Just a thought. I'd like to know if anyone has had shimmy with BMW manufactured rims?
