Funny that you should ask this question, I just got done refinishing my wood. And, Yes, when people get into my car they say, " WOW, is this real wood?"

It all started out when I found the original manufacturer of the Top Coat Varnish on the wood. I tried their refinishing process and modiried it to materials that you could buy in the U.S. Below it the Itemization of the Refinishing Steps.

1. Use 400 Grit Silicon Carbide paper wetted with Denatured Alchohol. Rub in the direction of the grain to remove the old varnish. As soon as the old varnish breaks through the surface turns real dark. The Denatured Alchohol works like an indicator.

2. Remove excess film with a clean cloth and Denatured Alcohol.

3. Rub on several coats of Minwax "Special Walnut Stain with a clean cloth allowing stain to dry between coats until a smooth consistent finish results. I used an Air Brush so that I could control the color consistency better.

4. Apply several ( 4 ) thin coats of Minwax Helmsman Exterior Urethane in either Satin or Glossy at 20 minute intervals.

5. Allow to dry for 24 hours before touching.

6. Reinstall, stand back and invite friends to admire.

If you don't feel comfortable to do this, I could work up a cost to do this for you.
