Although it seems that aluminium is not only a hot item in the Tuning circles but also caught up by car manufacturers (so it won't be original and I hate to do things like other people do) I have lately found myself toying on the idea of an aluminium finish.
My wood panels are also a bit faded and some places even worn, and instead of continuing with the expensive looking wood style, I thought about doing the following:
- Paint all of the "wooden" parts with aluminium lookalike paint, plenty of lacquer to make it last
- Change the (worn) sports steering wheel to an F1-look alike aluminium wheel
- Change the gearshift to a hitech aluminium shifter
- Change the pedals to aluminium ones
Given that my car is light pearl silver with black leather interior, it might look pretty darn good.
So why not paint the panels for instance with the OEM colour of your car? You can have any hitech paint shop make you a spray can or a normal can of your car's colour to apply to the panels (do a good priming job and don't forget to buy plenty of lacquer of the correct kind while you shop for the paint)!

Aluminium dreaming
ps: my car is so modded that any originality has been lost a long time ago so please don't give me any of that BMW OEM purist stuff okay? Thanks! H
