Hi,
I have a 1992 735i and the driver’s side seat was further back on the right hand (passenger’s) side. This bothered me for a while and I read the threads on this forum regarding how to tackle the problem. I decided that I might be better off just buying new cables and replacing them, so I went out and bought four cables from the dealer. There are four cables that each attach to a different motor which in turn controls a section of the seat.
What I did was to unbolt the seat in the back and push it forward a bit to unhook it in the front along the floor. This allowed me to move the seat around and on it’s side so that I could get a good look at the underside. I saw that the four cables would be very difficult to replace. Instead I sliced a section in the front part of the rubber casing on the cable that was leading to the motor that controlled the seat back on the passenger’s side. This allowed me to pull the metal cable out of the motor at the front part of the seat area and manually twist the cable in the direction necessary to pull the right hand side of the seat back toward the front of the car. I then put the seat back in place with the cable still out of the motor. I could now sit in the seat and test various degrees of turning of the cable to make sure that the seat was where I wanted it. By this I mean straight and comfortable. When I got it just the way I wanted it, I reinserted it into the casing and motor in the front area of the seat and sealed the cut area of the casing up with a small section of hose and tightened it with small hose clamps. If I ever need to readjust it the job will be very easy as all I have to do is loosen the hose clamps, take the front end of the speedometer type metal cable out of the casing and manually adjust it to my liking. This method could easily be duplicated for any of the four cables controlling seat section adjustment. I am going to return the cables I bought from the dealer as to try to replace them would have been a nightmare.
I hope this helps some people.

I successfully take off the seat and found out a lot of stuff under the seat. I found the cable but I don't know how to pull it out. I can only see 3 screws down there next to the cable. I lose 2 of them and those cables doesn't seem to loose. Any one can tell me which one is for the twisted back cable. Is like 4 cables down there and I can't even take one of em out. Please help!!!
