I forgot about the wire on the steering box - I think I've seen that mentioned on here before. The belts are new, and tight, and dont appear to be slipping (ie, no noise etc.). I assume the wire you refer to is the one that plugs directly to the connector on the steeringbox itself.
Thanks for you help Max.

I'd guess a loose wire on the Servotronic server in the steering box... the E32s have speed sensitive steering assist electronically controlled & drivern off the speedo. The single wire can corrode - maybe check for Servotronic in the archive.

Could also be glazed belts slippping until the warm up too, but I dunno how well you checked the belts..

I started my 735i up to move it into the garage today, after it had been standing for about two hours. When I tried to turn the steering wheel it was very hard to turn, almost like the power steering had gone out to lunch. Then all of a sudden it kicked in, then started cutting in and out at about 0.5 second intervals. I stopped the car and got out to check the fluid level, belt etc, but could not fault these. I then tried again, and it was fine, and later in the day it was fine as well. Has anyone ever had this experience?? Thanks for your help in advance.
