If you can steal a radio and go to the dealer and get the code, doesn't that nullify the reason for having the code in the first place?

If you have a serial number from the unit itself, not the car, and call a local dealer they might be able to run that number and give you a code, I read that some dealers charge for this but mine in LA did not, generally the service advisor is the one you want to contact, if someone is selling it without the code it must be dirt cheap how would you verfy its operation???
Good luck
