I believe it even shows up in the owner's manual or brochure.
Very handy -- considering the width of the interior space. To get to the back of the drawer ordinarily, you'd have to take yourself out of your seat. I've never had the problem with the shocks disconnected themselves -- but I have had the rear flap (back-drop) detach many times.

Most likely that you can open it like an other glove box and than pulling toward the interior of the car. Nicely made but the little struts have a tendency to become disconnected. Ekkehart
