My catalytic converter is really rusted and looks like need to be replace. Are you sure just regular catalytic convertor is okay to use? How do you know what size or spec to purchase the aftermarket cat?

You can buy the convertors from Advance Auto, Autozone, JC Whitney, etc., but measure the exhaust pipe diameter to make sure you order the right size. I've seen a couple of 740's done this way and they don't seem to have any problems and run much better. Now for those that live in states with emissions testing (I don't) you might want to look carefully into the specs of the replacement convertors from the manufacturer. Reman units are fairly reasonable from www.vinesbmw.com.
