It's $12 or $13 per gallon at the dealer with a BMW CCA discount vs. $5 or $6 for Prestone, etc. In addition to it's anti-corrosive properties, the BMW stuff will give you the peace of mind that your head gaskets will be safe. For the few extra dollars, I go by the book on this one. Besides, it's only once every few years, the extra 20 or so bucks is down in the noise.

I was told that the antifreeze must be free of amino and nitrate additives. However, I can't locate any brands that directly states that it is free of these additives. However, name brands such as Prestone states that their antifreeze are safe for any type of radiators, including the aluminum types. Is it OK to use Prestone's antifreeze or must I purchase the antifreeze from BMW?
