Thanks Kirt, I'm sure we'll be doing business here pretty soon. I'm in colorado springs, what do I need to prepare for when shipping my core to you? What I'm looking for is who to call to box that thing up, the cost, and turn around before the new rebuilt one comes back. 2300 isn't as bad a shot as I was expecting. :-)

I rebuild them and sell them for 2300.00 plus core cost and I sell them all over the country.Hope this is what you are looking for I also put in my earlier post what has to be replaced along with the cost to replace the parts.

From original Post. But the question that wasn't answered is what will/should a rebuild cost? I have the same problem in my '93 740i and have read the board extensively, but those details were sketchy at best. Also, anyone able to recommend a decent 'dealer' or garage out here in Colorado Springs for the job? Thanks in advance.

Max is correct again in referance to the 4HP22/24 "A" pack. Now the ZF 5HP30 is what you have and these things HAVE to be done: 1.Replace the A/C drum with the updated one (425.00) 2. valve body update (125.00) 3.all new (oem) frictions and steels 4.replace all pistons 5.rebuild torque converter 6.all 4 seals (external). Make sure you get the right fluid!!!!!
Good luck and call if you have any questions!

John - butting in...

The A clutch problem only applied to the 4hp22 4 speed tranny, all 740s had the 5 speed unit and that didn't suffer from the input shaft wearing & leaking pressure into the A clutch pack problem... if it was that you'd have no movement at all, the clutch would be burnt out.

I'd guess Kirt (happy birthday Kirt!!) will say it's a valve block issue...

Max

Now, I'm a little confused. If not the "A" clutch problem, what would cause those syptoms? And why not on a 94 740?

I am a little confused do you have a 94 740 or some thing else. If you have a 94 740 the "A" is not going to be the issue but there is other BIG issues with other parts. Call me and I will tell you what to ask the shop! And I know the cost for everything. I will be here tommorrow (Thursday July 19,2001 from 7am to 7pm Eastern) Today is my b-day so I am GONE!! Call (616)748-5735 I will be happy to point some things out for you! Good luck!

I read through prior posts and found my issue. Which is the "A" clutch problem. (94 740il) The car doesn't move forward from a standstill unless in 1st gear, in * mode, or in Drive and revving past 2500RPM. My questions are....
I'm having the transmission rebuild and I don't have a prior relationship with the shop (but I'm forced to use them.. Long story). What parts within the trany should be replaced when rebuilding. What should this whole operation cost? What should the parts cost? Approx number of hours for operation? Any gocha's I should be aware of? and so on.. I appreciate any insight you folks have and prior knowledge gained from this board. I'm a newbie BMW owner and need all the help I can get.
