94 740iL with electronic dampening, is their a cheaper way to replace the front shocks than paying up the wazoo with OEM shocks, the dealer says $2800?

On the 94 740iL I think the rear struts were the self leveling NOT the front? I have seen kits advertised to replace the rears w/conventional type struts. If your car requires replacement I'd hunt down an independent mechanic in your area with a (good) reputation and experience with high end european car repair. They may help reduce your parts costs and be a few bucks lower on the hourly labor rate as an alternative to a dealer who charges full list price on parts and flat rate labor that is getting pretty rediculous these days. (And I thought being a brain surgeon would pay good bucks?!?!)
