Bob has the EDC (electronic damping control) shocks which ...ta daa!... are different than just having the LAD rear suspension. These shocks have two solenoids ea which control the oil that flows thru the piston and valves and gives a controlled damping of the suspension system instead of variable damping like in regular suspensions. The shocks are located in the front and rear and the system is controlled by a switch on the console to give either comfort or sport ride thru several sensors in the front, middle, and rear of the car and also a sensor on the steering. Bob, these shocks do cost a lot to replace and I am not sure about switching over to a regular suspension. You might have better luck asking some of the guys on the E31 (8 series) board and you may find some help over on the E34(5 series board) as well. Other than calling around to some of the aftermarket guys like bavarianparts.com, eurasion, bavauto, etc ... that's the only advice I have for you now.
Q
91 735iL (w/EDC, too)
94 740iL with electronic dampening, is their a cheaper way to replace the front shocks than paying up the wazoo with OEM shocks, the dealer says $2800?
