First of all, are you sure it is the compressor? If it is and the one you purchased is not R134 compatible, you can easily convert to R134 with the conversion kit mentioned in the previous post. Just remember, you will probably experience lighter cooling output at idle because R134 compressors are beefier then the freon based units. I converted mine and it works great in the Dallas heat except when idling in this nasty Big D traffic. Good luck.
John 90-735ilDavid,
Try this URL and hopefully your new compressor is R134 compatible. R134 from my mechanic is only $10/lb. KMart bottles are much cheaper. The conversion kit is A $50-60. Probably cheaper to convert now. If you have a leak, $300+ of R12 out the door vs. $45 of R134.
Thanks BIMMER People! Anyway I need to fix my AC in an 89 735i. I just purchased a used AC compressor from a friend and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a kit (fitting, tubes ect..) Also I'm amazed that my car holds 4.5lbs of freon?!!! Sorta spendy at $67 a pound. Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated.
David
