I'm pondering the same thing. So far I know of the J.C. (Jim Conforti, Turner Motor Sports), Dinan, & Auto-Thority. They run in the $250 range. It shouldn't take much to track down websites for them in the archives, either here or on the e28 & e34 boards. The cheapest gain I've done is the Mustang 19 lb/hr Bosch fuel injectors (approx. 2.5% flow increase) at a cost of $47 total for all six, take-offs from Saleen, still available on E-bay for $65. He still has 20 sets but raised his price, gool 'ol supply & demand. The e28 board had his recent post. I've been happy with them so far, a little (smoother maybe since they're new) < 100 miles on them when I got them. More power between 2700 & 4000 rpm & gets up to redline more freely. Of coarse the O2 sensor feedback & stock chip limit what they can do & I'm thinking a chip will take better advantage of them.

Beyond that, other mods start getting more expensive i.e. headers, free-flow exhaust, larger throttle body, improved MAF, cam, extrude-honed intake, variable fuel pressure regulator, etc. etc. I think a chip is the best bang for the buck unless these other components need replacing anyway. Another intriguing mod is a higher rearend ratio, but that gets expensive too.

What are the choices for chips for 90 735i? Are they the cheapest hp gains for my car?
