Most comments about chips seem to favor the Jim Conforti chip for its ability to "kick in" at any throttle response. The Dinan chip is well spoken of but it had been said that it only "kicked in" at WOT (wide open throttle) i.e. when you put your foot down to the metal. But I've also heard that the Dinan has reprogrammed the chip to a similar response as the JC chip. (you will have to check this out during your research). In Dinan's favor they also sell a transmission chip...so they kinda offer a "two punch" package.

I installed a JC chip in my 91 735il back in Nov/00 and will testify that there is a performance increase. Now granted, this is according to my "butt dyno"...I have no verified dyno numbers to report...but when I compare my 7 to my best friend's (91) and bro-in-law's (92) (both have 735il's)... my 7 from a standing start(in ED) has a more responsive pick-up when the rpms reach 2000 compared to theirs...when already rolling at highway speeds, there's an immediate response when acceleration is required that you can feel. Now if you drop the shifter into S3, from a standing start, WOO HOO!!!...it's like who lit a fire under the old girl...you will difinitely feel and understand what your $250 just bought! Granted this is just my opinion and I have no true dyno test to back it up...just my "butt dyno"!

ps The JC chip also removed the speed limiter!

What are the choices for chips for 90 735i? Are they the cheapest hp gains for my car?
