I've just realised what the clunking noises are on my back wheels... (on an '87 730)- another problem solved, thanks Mark. We'll add it to the non booting up computer, rough idle, scrubbing tyres and a draining battery... but we love them don't we??

Couldn't find this problem in any archives so thought I'd post it in case this helps someone else in future.

Every time I went over a bump with my 88 735i there were loud noises coming from the rear wheels. Discovered today the problem was that the centering clips on the brake pads had actually broken off on BOTH sides so the pads were moving around banging metal against metal. The pads are like new (replaced by previous owner).

I welded the clips into place so they won't likely be coming off again.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've never seen this on a vehicle before.

JJB
