Hi All,
I have posted before about a clunk in the rear of my 1990 735il. I took it to a shop and they diagnosed the problem as being a rear axle. The CV Joints are trying to lock as they put it. Here's the kicker. I took the car for a drive on sunday to make sure the battery stayed charged. When accelerating from a stop (turning a hard left), I heard a loud bang and a grinding moaning noise afterwards and I only have approx 30% of the power I used to have. I had my big baby towed home. My diagnosis is that the axle may have popped out because there were no new circlips put in when they reinstalled the axle after inspection. Hopefully, I don't need a new diff or I'm just gonna break out in tears right here on the spot. Has anybody else had this problem? By the way, if I put the car in drive or reverse while at a stop, I still hear the groaning. Any help appreciated. I ordered $1200 worth of parts for her yesterday. This includes front and rear struts (self leveling), Front pads, Upper Control Arms, Diff Seals, Dogbone links, Engine Mounts, Tranny Mounts, Exhaust Brackets, and a big bottle of advil. Let me know if any of you have any input via e-mail or post. Any help appreciated. I have to get my car back on the road again.
