Does anyone know exactly why the starter-motor sound on the V12 is so distinctive? The other BMW models have the usual repeating-pulsing starter noise, yet the V12's have a solid, smooth crank-up sound. Is it just that the extra cylinders increase the number of pulses, and the extra number of pulses just smooths out what would ordinarily be a more staccato sound? As well, I once thought that this sound was unique to the BMW V12. However, the Ferrari 456 V12 starts up with almost the exact same sound, as does the 2001 MB S600. Not sure about the previous generation MB S600.
So, any thoughts?
