That cable lowers & raises the shoulder strap in the B-pillar when the seat is moved forward or backward. It's purely mechanical & will not alter any of the seat functions.

Passenger seat on my 88 735i would not recline; as per info in the archives, I shortened the cable housings and now the seat reclines just fine - many thanks to those who have posted previous articles on this subject.

My question concerns the skinny cable (about the same diameter as a bicycle brake or derailer cable) which enters the floor area under the seat. Mine is broken yet all controls on the seat seem to work fine. I'm not sure whether it was broken when I started or if I broke it when I lifted the seat! Does anyone know what the cable is for and whether or not I can leave it broken without worrying?

Thanks in advance,
