How to recognize V12 intake air leaks? (archive)

Hi y'all!

I was wondering: since the M70 V-12 engines are known for their habit of creating air leaks at certain mileage, it would be very useful for all of us to know how to notice them.

Far as I know the engine was made to adapt to trouble such as minor wear and tear, air leaks etc. so I wonder if an engine could run seemingly well although it's leaking like a desperado after a shootout.

Does the engine idle differently?
Is there a lack of power at certain rpm?
Heat issues? (well they already run really hot don't they)
Can you actually hear it somehow?

Anyone having had air intake leaks fixed please post on how you found out that you were having this kind of problem.

For anyone wanting to fix the leaks, search the archives; there are million articles on this issue.

Thanks in advance,
